What type of career can I get from studying world events, specializing in the Middle East and Africa? I have been, for the last 1-2 years been studying current events and some of the background information on world events especially in the Middle East and Northeastern Africa. I have attempted to keep track of everything reported out of this region of the world as well as all other parts of the world. I just graduated high school but I know an enormous amount of information. So, what type of career, after going to college, could I get with this type of knowledge? Would I have to write books to make a living?
experiences of foreign exchange to middle east or africa? I'm a 5'3" slender white girl and am planning to go either to Egypt to learn Arabic or Tajikistan to learn Farsi, so I will stick out badly against the locals. If you or a friend have ever been to the middle east or north eastern Africa (either on vacation or foreign exchange) please share your experience with me, so I know what to expect as far as friendliness of the people, day to day life, how safe you felt, and your overall impression. Thanks!
Were there any vegetarian deity cults or religious movements in ancient Africa, Near/Middle East, or Europe? Please leave out Asia unless it is not one of the obvious ones of Hinduism, Jainism, or Buddhism. I am more looking for ancient religious movements in the Near/Middle East, Africa, or Europe and Eastern Europe. Even if just the priests were vegetarian, if you can give me a name I can get more information on, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Yeah, not your name. The name of the tradition. Why should you get two points for that answer?
How did societies in East Africa differ from societies in West Africa? a.East African societies had fewer natural resources. b.East African societies did not adopt Islam as West African societies did. c.East African societies did not grow as wealthy as West African societies. d.East African societies traded mainly by sea and West African societies traded mainly by land.
Why did Great Britain and Germany imperialize East Africa? Like what economic resources or raw materials did East Africa have that Great Britian/Germany want. Also, how did they imperialize it? And, what were the results? I'm doing this for a school project that's due in two days, and I can't find the answers in the text book or online. And my partner won't help me find it. [what a bum!] Sources would be helpful also. Also, if someone has links to the maps of East Africa, Great Britain, and Germany, please post them on here! Thank you.
Did the Nazis try to persecute and kill Jews in the Middle East and North Africa? When the Nazis moved down to the North Africa region, there were several smaller Jewish communities at the time in the area. I heard the Nazis tried to make these Jews wear special badges indicating they were Jews like they made the Jews in Europe wear, and persecute and kill them or get the local Arabs/Muslims to help in persecuting them. Is this true and what exactly did they do to the Jews in the Middle East and Africa when they came in contact with them? Were they ever sent to any extermination camps?

Is the solution to piracy off the Horn of Africa, and now off East Africa, political or military? I'm retired from the US Navy and know that there are many workable military solutions such as designated transit lanes that can easily be policed. However, this article seems to indicate the solution is political. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/africa/article5183710.ece Iranian grain ship seized as Somali pirates hold world to ransom Alarm grows as governments and navies are rendered legally powerless to conduct security operations on the high seas Somali pirates struck again yesterday, seizing an Iranian cargo ship holding 30,000 tonnes of grain, as the world’s governments and navies pronounced themselves powerless against this new threat to global trade. Admiral Michael Mullen, the US military chief, pronounced himself stunned by the pirates’ reach after their capture of the supertanker Sirius Star and its $100 million (£70 million) cargo. Commanders from the US Fifth Fleet and from Nato warships in the area said that they would not intervene to retake the vessel. The Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, the owner of the ship, condemned the hijacking as an “outrageous act” that required international action. “Piracy, like terrorism, is a disease which is against everybody, and everybody must address it together,” Prince Saud al-Faisal said. Arab diplomats would meet in Cairo on Thursday to discuss what could be done in response, Yemeni officials said. (read the rest at the link)

Any movie for East Africa and the middle east? Is there any movies that discuss the history of muticulture and multi-ethnicities of East Africans (Eritrea, sudan, Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanznia, uganda and rewanda) and the middlw east?
Do you think feed the starving in Nth East Africa is helpful? I know it's sad but are we doing more damage by feeding these people. If they are saved they grow up & breed. Then there are twice as many starving people. Would it be better to find a way to have them grow enough for themselves. Is famine Gods way reaching a natural balance and should we interfere with that?
Is Jenkem just an urban myth or is this common in East Africa ? Ever since this story below > http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/406067.stm .... appeared on the BBC nine years ago, people have wondered does this really happen or was the journalist who wrote the article just fooled. Caution: Reading the linked story may cause nausea.
